Joe is a new venture definition and validation expert with an operating background, a user-centered mentality, and 20 years of startup, consulting, and venture leadership experience. As an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Mach49, Joe is deeply embedded in the emerging innovation ecosystem. He advises and coaches incubator programs and corporate venture teams, helping them develop growth opportunities in the Bay Area and around the world, including LATAM, APAC, and EMIEA.  

In addition to mentoring several hundred startup teams, Joe has founded and led new ventures both inside and outside the corporate mothership, including as the advisory lead in the Ernst & Young Global Ventures group, lead product and design mentor with Google for Startups, a consulting user strategist in the Marketing Innovation Group at IBM, and as the senior leader of a creative agency team that reached an IPO in 2012, which was later acquired by Accenture Interactive.

Joe has been cited as a mobile industry and user-centered design expert in research published by Forrester and Internet Retailer. His team’s work earned a #1 rank on Apple App Store and multiple awards from Webby, AdAge Media Vanguard, and others. 

He has a BS in Computer Science from Northwestern University and a Product Management Certificate from the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. Based in San Francisco, Joe is a passionate Northwestern Wildcat and loves to travel.
