Smitty joins Mach49 as VP Finance and Executive-in-Residence, working with venture teams throughout all stages of incubation and acceleration. He is an entrepreneurial CFO with twenty-five years of experience at high-growth Silicon Valley tech companies, and he has managed all phases of company growth from initial founding to over $150M revenue global operations. His passions include creating and executing business strategies, scaling G&A/operations and financial systems, raising venture and strategic capital, and building strong BOD and investor relationships.
From 1998 through 2019, he was CFO/VP Finance at multiple public and private tech companies, including Cloud Engines — a cloud storage tech company he co-founded in 2007, Rovi Corp (now Tivo), Mediabolic, and several others. During the mid-90s, Smitty lived in the Republic of Singapore, where he ran Asia Pacific finance and operations for Synopsys, and earlier in his career, he worked as a leveraged buyout/M&A banker for Citicorp Investment Bank in New York and Los Angeles.
Smitty holds a BS in Accounting and Finance from the University of Vermont and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He also serves as Board Member, Treasurer, and Coach of Menlo-Atherton Rugby Club, a nationally ranked high school rugby program serving mostly disadvantaged Polynesian youth with the prime goal of increasing university matriculation rates.
