Xiao works closely with Mach49’s global clients as a trusted advisor on investment strategies, as well as to identify new venture directions that provide the most significant opportunities for growth. Leveraging his background in technology and his experience in venture investing and consulting, he helps clients design and executive corporate venture capital practices, validate and vet venture concepts, then bring the most promising ideas all the way to fruition in collaboration with internal and external partners. Over the course of his impressive career, he has established a global network of entrepreneurs, investors, corporate thought leaders, and government officials.
Prior to joining Mach49, Xiao was a Senior Analyst at Lux Research — a strategic advisory firm focusing on emerging technologies and their impact on physical industries. At Lux, Xiao advised executives from Global 1000 corporations, venture capital firms, and government agencies on how to leverage digital transformation. He led a team analyzing the intersection of materials, manufacturing, and technology adoption, and closely monitored emerging technologies like synthetic biology, materials informatics, generative design, 3D printing, digital sales platforms, and the new business models enabled by those developments. Before joining Lux, he worked at Evonik, focusing on pharmaceutical formulation development.
Xiao holds a PhD in materials science and an MS in biotechnology from New York University. He has authored 18 peer-reviewed publications, holds 2 granted patents, and has been featured in many tech blogs and trade magazines for his thoughts on technologies and megatrends. He is also fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
