A seasoned finance and operations executive, Russ has worked with multiple venture-backed startups over the course of his career. As EVP of Development, Russ brings his financial, operational, and executive expertise to drive strategic initiatives and foster global growth for Mach49.

Russ kicked off his career in a cubicle at the largest oil company in the world. Less than a year into the job, he found himself craving more. He longed for the excitement of working with a small team to achieve a common goal. When the chance to join a small oil exploration company arose, promising long hours and the camaraderie of a small team, Russ took the leap and dove headfirst into the world of oil, gas, and mineral exploration. For the next five years, Russ worked across every province and territory in Canada. He thrived on the intensity of the work, the sense of satisfaction when a project was completed, and the freedom to move between projects.

After getting married and moving to California, Russ returned to a “stable” job with one of the world's largest accounting and consulting companies. The appeal of the startup world was too enticing to ignore however, and he left the consulting firm as a CPA to join a software startup in Palo Alto. Over the next 30 years, Russ played a key role as the finance and operations executive for numerous startups, including Pure Software, Aurigin Systems, and Serious Energy. Since 2002, Russ has provided financial consulting and management services to early stage, high-tech companies in Silicon Valley, while also managing private equity-funded mining and real estate investments in the Western US.

To Russ, success has nothing to do with the size of a company or the paycheck. He appreciates the thrill of the journey more than the destination, and lives for the shared ups and downs of a small group of people working together towards a common goal.

Russ holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Alberta and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
