Stephen is a long-time entrepreneur and C-suite executive with experience in venture capital, high-growth business, and academia. A seasoned professional in venture development with experience in a wide range of industries, technologies, and geographies, Stephen has been involved in the creation of over 30 high-tech companies and leverages his expertise in disruptive business models to help clients use a systems-based approach to new venture creation.

He started his career in the UK, creating spin-outs in the corporate sector and establishing globally dominant companies. Later, as Founder and CEO of Powerhouse Ventures Limited — an investment company that incubated and funded companies spun out of universities — Stephen helped create ventures across a wide range of technology sectors, including life science, clean technologies, and robotics. He led Powerhouse to a first-of-its-kind listing on the Australian stock exchange, served on the Board of many of the business' portfolio companies, and achieved several exits via IPOs and trade sale transactions.

Stephen holds a PhD in machine learning and robotics from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand and conducted postdoctoral research in modern control theory at the University of Bath in the UK. He currently holds governance appointments in the UK and New Zealand and advises globally on venture incubation.
