Alain has over 30 years of experience as a CEO, CTO, venture capitalist, Board Member, and global executive of S&P 500 companies, highlighted by a record of turning emerging companies with disruptive science-based technologies into global leaders.

He currently sits on the Boards of several companies, including Pixelligent and Neutron Therapeutics, advising on fundraising, infrastructure, strategic growth initiatives, and exits. He is also Chairman of the Board at Kateeva, where he previously served a 7-year tenure as CEO and led the company’s turnaround to become a global supplier of inkjet equipment to the OLED display industry. Under Alain’s leadership, Kateeva raised more than $230M to fuel its growth, as cumulative shipments exceeded $450M in value. The company’s flagship product retains its market leadership position, having produced more than 600M OLED displays to date.

Previously, Alain was a Partner at San Francisco-based venture capital firm Crosslink Capital, where he co-led semiconductor and energy technology investment activities. Earlier in his career, as Co-Founder and General Partner of Compass Venture Partners, he was a Series A investor in Tesla Motors, recognizing the game-changing potential for electric transportation.

Before turning to venture capital, Alain developed breakthrough process technologies that kept semiconductor manufacturers on track with Moore’s Law. As CTO at Novellus Systems — now part of Lam Research — he championed a total copper metallization solution for advanced semiconductor manufacturing. The disruptive move made Novellus a category leader and helped catapult the company across the $1B revenue threshold.

Alain holds a BS in mathematics and physics, an MS in physics from the University of Paris XI at Orsay, France, and a Ph.D. in solid state physics from Temple University. He has authored over 30 technical papers and is a co-inventor on 6 patents.
